The O.C. Interviews: Adam Brody talks early career in recent ET Interview!

adam brody the o.c. rock the vote

In a recent exclusive Entertainment Television interview with Adam Brody, Adam talks early career moves, what he's been up to lately as well as his thoughts on The O.C..

Here is an interesting O.C. related snippet from the interview:

“I think anyone who watched the show would agree that it wasn't nearly the same show toward the end,” he says candidly, but careful not to offend. “If you did 10 or 15 [episodes] per season like you do now, it would have been a different animal; I think the quality could have maintained a lot longer. The first season was 27 episodes, and we just burned through so much story. I’d feel that way after 100 episodes of anything.”

The O.C. Interviews: A 2007 OC interview with Corey Price (Luke Ward's younger brother)

Corey Price the o.c. actor eric

We present to you an awesome 2007 interview with Corey Price aka the actor that played Eric Ward in the 4th season of The O.C..

If you don't remember Eric, he was one of Luke Ward's (Chris Carmack) two younger brothers in the show. Corey was a great casting choice as he looked a lot like his fictitious older brother Luke.

Eric and his brother Brad (Wayne Dalglish) ended up staying in Newport after Luke and his dad split to Portland. Eric and Brad made their comedic reintroduction in season 4 - Do you remember the chest shaving scene? Before that we only saw Luke's brothers in the season 1 episode 12 "The Secret" - The actors we saw in that episode were different than who they casted in season 4.

Corey Price the o.c. actor eric
As you can see Corey is on the right and his twin brother is on the left

Since 2007, the O.C. was Corey's only major acting gig which lasted 10 episodes. Consequently Corey did some modeling for Hollister which is very reminiscent to his TV brother Luke Ward (Chris Carmack) Chris modeled for Abercrombie before becoming the character Luke. I guess a chiseled jaw line is a requirement to become a Ward!

The following interview comes from the now defunct O.C. site Editorial Newport! It's too good to be forgotten! Enjoy!

1. Were you a fan of the show before your appearance?

I had seen The OC a few times but did not watch it with any regularity. However, I was pretty familiar with the show because all the gals in high school used to talk about it all the time. They all loved it. So you can imagine how much fun I had when I got to tell them I was to be on it.

2. What was it like being featured on such a successful show?

Not bad for a first gig. It was a real honor to be a part of. I think it’s just a really cool show to say you’ve been on. And I’ll never forget it.

3. Having your own real-life twin brother, was it somewhat more "normal" to have an onscreen Twin Brother, too? Or was it just all the odder?

Well, because I have been around my real twin brother Casey for my entire life it was a bit strange to be someone else’s twin brother for the show. Especially when he’s four years younger than me. But Wayne is an awesome kid. I got along with him very well.

4. What kind of reaction did you receive from family/friends about the role?

Well, as I said a lot of my friends from high school were avid fans of the show so it was very exciting to tell them. I received nothing but constant support and encouragement from my friends and family back home. It really felt great to have people back home be proud of me.

5. How was the very, um, "interesting" experience of shaving Wayne Daglish's chest?

Hahahaha. . . .Yeah, I’d say that was pretty memorable. Wayne and I had a lot of fun with that scene. After one particular take, when “cut” was supposed to be called, absolute silence was kept from the entire set as if to keep shooting. So basically everyone left me to shave Wayne’s chest for a few extremely long moments before they all started laughing. We had just been joked on. It was rather demoralizing.

6. Furthermore, were there many highlight funny scenes?

I got to be in a closet with this very attractive girl named Janel Parrish who played Leah in one of the episodes. The scene starts with us walking out of the closet as if we had just played “seven minutes in heaven.” I told her the scene would look more real if we were really making out in the closet before we walked out. I thought I was pretty convincing but she didn’t go for it.

7. Do you reckon you fill out much of the Orange County/Californian beach pseudo-jock stereotype?

Hahaha wow. No, definitely not. I am not, not have I ever been an athlete. I have always been into music. I’ve been playing the drums since I was a little kid. And my brother has been playing the guitar. We’ve grown up loving and playing music and never showed much interest in athletics. ROGER WATERS.JUNE 2007.HOLLYWOOD BOWL!! HELL YEAH!!

8. You apparently had a handful of scenes cut from the episodes. Do you feel they contributed much to the story?

Not really. Although, I was a little bummed about those cut scenes, they actually were pretty irrelevant to the main stories.

9. Do you actually play water-polo?

I’m from Kentucky. I had never even heard of water polo. Nor am I a very strong swimmer. Needless to say, the whole ordeal was a bit of a struggle.

10. Willa Holland must've been amazing to work with...

Yes, she was quite nice and a pleasure to work with. But she is just the worst at brain-teasers. As I remember, Wayne was pretty awful too. Despite what they may say, my superiority in the area of logic and reasoning led to many brain-teaser triumphs.

11. And finally, Were there any outstanding experiences from your time on the show?

One of the most memorable moments of my time working on the show was my first moment on set. I had just finished with make-up and hair and I walked to the stage for the first time. I had never even been on TV set before and the whole thing was amazing. I even recognized some of the sets from my recollections of seeing the show from years earlier, when I was in high school. I met Adam Brody, who is a very nice guy and fun to work with. My level of excitement that morning was beyond anything I had ever experienced before. Exactly a year earlier, I was in Kentucky just graduating high school.

The O.C Interviews: Shaun Cozzens (Pizza guy from Julie's Sex Tape The Porn Identity)

Shaun Cozzens may not be too familiar but he has done a fair amount of acting over the years, mainly small roles but consistent never the less. To us O.C. fans he was Julie's co-star in her pizza porn VHS flick! Starting to remember? Shaun Cozzen played the pizza delivery guy on the tape, delivering more than just a pizza if you know what I mean. They both act out what could be the worlds cheesiest (no pun intended) scenes ever!

Below is a clip from their video and a vintage interview with Shaun Cozzens (from the now defunct O.C. site Editorial Newport). An interview so good it needed to be re-posted! Enjoy!

Who?: Shaun Cozzens
Who!?: He played the pizza guy in Julie's blast-from-the-past porn flick, "The Porn Identity". Featured in episodes 2.15 - 2.17.

1. Had you ever seen the show before your appearance?
Actually I only saw the show a few times but not an actual full episode until I got a call for the audition. I watched the show then just to see who I would be in a scene with and exactly how they act and what there character was like so I could adjust my audition accordingly.

2. What was it like being featured on such a successful series?
I had an absolute blast. The crew, producers, directors and Melinda were great to work with and very accepting of a new comer. They helped me feel right at home and comfortable enough to try fun things, which I think helped the episode turn out the way it did.

3. With your somewhat obscure role in the episode, what did your family and friends think?
The role was killer. I mean, who wouldnt want to play a cheesy 80's pornstar. Especially when you get to play opposite a great and beautiful actress. My friends and family still joke around about it and give me a hard time, but it is all in fun and they know that acting is my true passion and they are totally supportive of that.

4. Favourite OC Babe?
Wow, that is a tough one. They were all beautiful, but I would have to say Melinda because she was the one that I saw and worked the most with. I didnt really have a chance to talk to any of the others except in passing.

5. Was Melinda Clarke a good kisser?
Haha what a hilarious question. Of course she was.... She was very professional and easy to work with which made the kissing scene easier to do. Its always difficult to come on set and do an intimate scene with someone that you dont know and have only talked to for like 5 minutes before they say "action" and have to make it look real and believable. But I think we pulled it off ok.

6. And finally, Were there any outstanding experiences from your time on the show?
I would have to say the best experience for me was making the cast and crew bust up laughing while we were shooting and all the outtakes that occurred while filming. That coupled with the phone call that I got from a friend that went to the wrap party for the season and said that Melinda gave a speech about working with me and how she enjoyed it and how much fun she had then the showed some of the outtakes to the crowd. It was nice to be thought of in that way......All in all the people were great and the experience was one of my favorite acting gigs to date.

The O.C. Interviews: Early 2004 O.C. Interview with Benjamin Mckenzie!

benjamin mckenzie and adam brody pose for promo O.C photo

Article by Katie Sullivan
From: The Cavalier Daily (Independent daily news organization at the University of Virginia)
Article date: January 21st 2004

Ben McKenzie doesn't have it bad.

The 2001 College graduate has established himself in his chosen profession -- acting -- by landing the role of main character Ryan on Fox's hit new teen drama, "The O.C.," which airs at 9 p.m. tonight.

He took some time out of his busy shooting schedule -- his lunch break, to be exact -- to talk with The Cavalier Daily. Not every alumnus has a publicist.

As Ryan, McKenzie plays a teen with a troubled past, arrested for stealing a car with his brother and subsequently abandoned by his mother. He is taken in by his public defender, played by Peter Gallagher, and must transition from his working-class Chino past to the sometimes ridiculously opulent lifestyle of Orange County, California.

But McKenzie said Ryan's background has little in common with his own past.

"I was a football player, got a good degree from a great university -- little shout out to U.Va. there -- and I had a very wonderful family and grew up in a great environment," McKenzie said.

But he does feel he and Ryan are somewhat a match of personalities.

"I'm a fairly quiet, thoughtful, passionate guy, and I think Ryan is too," McKenzie said.

McKenzie's double majors, foreign affairs and economics, are not the most obvious for someone interested in acting, but he said that his interest in the theater didn't start until college.

"I came to U.Va. from Austin, Texas, where I played football and was not an actor -- I didn't have the guts to do it. When I came to U.Va. I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but I was intending to do something like politics or history or literature," McKenzie said. "But I tried out for a play and got cast, and I loved that experience and kept doing it again and again."

As graduation approached he wasn't sure whether he wanted to pursue acting or try something more conventional -- but eventually acting won out.

He spent the summer after graduation working with the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts and then moved to New York City in fall of 2001.

"It was right before Sept. 11. I got up there and it was a mess. The theater scene in large part shut down, so I waited tables and auditioned," he said. "I had the opportunity to go to L.A. so I packed a bag, figuring I'd be back in a week, but a week later I was still there and a year later I was still there."

And right after that he landed the job on "The O.C."

"It's a very 'go west young man seeking fame and fortune' kind of story," McKenzie said. "I had no plan. It was very haphazard. To be honest, in this business it's very haphazard how you make it anyway. You try to become a good actor by studying and working on it and then you give it a shot, and there's no way to guarantee success or failure."

His advice to students interested in following in his footsteps is to consider whether it's what you really want to do and then give it your all.

And be prepared to deal with disappointment with an open mind, McKenzie said.

"The most hardworking guy doesn't always get the job," he explained. "You have to understand that and be okay with that."

McKenzie is certainly working hard now.

He spends up to 12 hours a day working on the show, mostly on the set.

"It's a lot less glamorous and different than one would imagine. It's normal lives and normal people, of which I am one," McKenzie said. "You have different requirements, basically. Instead of having to do research for a presentation, you have to do a couple of interviews to promote a show."

McKenzie said he believes part of the reason the media has picked up so heavily on the show is that it is a break from cop, lawyer and reality TV.

The casts' looks don't hurt either.

Asked if Peter Gallagher is as hot on TV as he is in real life, McKenzie said he was.

"It's a pretty attractive cast, I have to say, both guys and girls," McKenzie said. "We're doing all right for ourselves."

The cast works five or six episodes ahead of what the show is airing, depending on when reruns air and other factors.

"It's mildly amusing to have people who are very avid fans want to know if Marissa is going to break up with Ryan," McKenzie said. "It's interesting to watch because as an actor you know what's coming up but the rest of the world doesn't."

He finds the working world on the set to be "a wonderfully cooperative environment."

"Josh [the creator] is 27 years old, and me being 25 I'm able to talk to him almost as a peer," McKenzie said. "I sit down with him after each draft, and anything I think is a trouble spot we work through it. I can't stress enough how important it is, and rare. Other shows end up being an environment where they tell you what's going to happen."

McKenzie said the cast members are able to have a fair amount of influence on their characters, especially Adam Brody, who plays the sarcastic Seth.

"Adam's able to put his own comedy and humor into the show, and I'm able to adjust the dialogue to something I think is semi-accurate," McKenzie said. "[Josh] also bases some of the show off of our lives."

He cited an example in which a conversation between he and Adam about girls turned up in the script.

"You have to watch yourself when you're around Josh," McKenzie said.

McKenzie's time at the University was full of normal activities. He streaked the Lawn. His favorite restaurant was Michael's Bistro, although he enjoyed going downtown to C&O when his parents were in town to foot the bill. He lived in Emmet his first year.

While serious about his studies, he spent most of his free time doing theater. "Mainly what happened was I would go to class during the day and have rehearsal at night," McKenzie said.

He worked in several productions, including a role as the duke in "Measure for Measure" during his fourth year, for any current fourth years who might have seen him during their first year.

He also enjoyed working with several of the professors in the drama department, including Betsy Tucker, Richard Warner and Gwen West, who he stressed were in no particular order.

"I look back and think U.Va. really is a wonderful place to go to school," McKenzie said. "Not to be too much of a dork, but it's a great learning environment. The professors are genuinely there to teach, and at other schools they're there to research."

Anyone looking for evidence of McKenzie in the yearbook isn't going to find him, however, because McKenzie is not his real last name.

He changed to his middle name -- his full name is Benjamin McKenzie Schenkkan -- because there was already an actor with a similar name in the union.

"He's in 'Angels in America' [and also last week's episode of 'Law and Order'] -- Ben Shenkman," McKenzie said. "It was causing confusion already, so I thought it would be simpler and easier if I went with my middle name."

McKenzie enjoyed following University sports while an undergraduate, especially football and basketball, "with the lovely court that Jefferson signed." He tries to follow the teams now, but they don't get onto television too often in Los Angeles, where he is now working.

Despite his high school background as a football player, McKenzie did not play any sports while at the University, although he did have a brief encounter with rugby.

"I played rugby for a while with a hallmate, Chris Turner -- a great guy. Rugby players are much scarier than football players, they do it without pads -- they're really nice guys but they're crazy," McKenzie said. "I'm not big enough to do it and not break. It was fun though. I had no idea what I was doing, running around trying to throw the ball to someone."

McKenzie said he sees the future as pretty wide open.

"In the near future I'd love to break into film and try my hand at different roles and different genres," he said.

Asked if he wants to be an actor for the rest of his life, he said there's no way to be sure.

"I love what I do," McKenzie said. "But it's hard to say at age 25. Four years ago I didn't know I wanted to be an actor. I'm interested in government and politics, and other aspects of the business, like directing, producing, writing."

And of course he'd like to come back to visit his alma mater.

"Wahoowa. Hopefully I'll make it back some day, be able to hang out again," McKenzie said. "It was a great time, a great school. I'll never be able to do it again"

young little Bella Thorne The O.C.
Who? Bella Thorne (9 years old)

Which character did she play?

Young Taylor in a flashback in episode 4.13 (The Case of The Franks)

1. Had you ever seen the show before your appearance?

I've watched it since the very first show!

2. What was it like being featured on such a successful series?

It was one of the BEST experiences in my acting career and the cast and crew is VERY NICE!

3. Was it a particularly difficult process in landing such an awesome gig?

It is not easy booking a show like The OC, however the casting directors, Todd and Patrick, are very talented and know exactly what they want. They are part of the success of the show. Obviously, the Cast, Crew, Writers, Director and Producers are the other reason. The fans have alot of say too!

4. Did you get to hang out with the general cast? What're they like?

Yes and they were extremely kind and open. I love Autumn and Willa. I chatted with Willa and "chatted" with Autumn after the shoot.

5. Do you think you look like Taylor?

Yes, and we have similar personalities. As a matter of fact, after I met with producers, I was in the elevator and a crew member said to me "You must be young Taylor", and I said, "I hope so", she then said, "YOU ARE AUTUMN!". This was before they booked me!

6. And finally, Were there any outstanding experiences from your time on the show?

The whole experience was outstanding and I had a great time. All of the cast was great and I made some special friends with the "Young OC"! I'm very sad that it has come to an end!

He played construction worker and architect Archie in episode 2.01 - 2.02.

1. How was the general experience of being on the set of such a successful show?

I was thrilled because if you hear my accent, it is VERY East Coast and so not Orange County, but Peter Gallagher really treated me great from the first minute I met him and that made me feel really welcome......and did you know I had the first spoken line of Season Two....there's a little trivia for ya :).

2. You had an infamous OC bagel for breakfast in the Cohen kitchen - tell me it lives up to its symbolic reputation!

What an honor to share bagels in the Cohen household:) they were fresh and they were YUMMY!

3. From what you remember of the set of the school, is it really as beautiful as it looks?

That school really is gorgeous and is not in Orange County, I believe it's actually an all girl Catholic College.

4. How much about I-beams do you actually know? Must feel pretty awful messing up the Cohen's house.

I know a LOT about I Beams, I was a Union Ironworker for 10 years before becoming an actor:) so of course I caught a some laughs from a few of my old buddies who saw the show.

5. And finally, Who's your favourite OC babe?

Ha Ha, that's easy .....Kiki :) Also though, I was asked to come back for the final episode and before i had the chance to, I had already been written out :(.
