The O.C. Whoops: A rather sticky pilot episode goof up!

the o.c. tv show error

There isn't much wrong (story wise) with the pilot episode of The O.C..In fact in our very unbiased opinion ;) The O.C. pilot is flawless..But with that being said there are a few funny technical errors that were made during its filming. Recently our team of researches discovered one such error that hasn't been reported anywhere else!

The error happens when Kirsten approaches Sandy in the front of their house near the end of the episode. Kirsten distressed informs Sandy that Seth got into a fight and Sandy proceeds to literally not give a dang and says "at least he has someone to hang out with". As you see in the photo above there is some red making tape on the top of the stairs. We have highlighted for you in-case you are blind. This tape marks where the actors start a scene or where they stand when the director calls action. This was Kirsten's starting point marker and somehow nobody realized this in the editing room 😄!!

The O.C. Whoops: Range Rover window reflection reveals camera in shot?

the o.c. blooper whoops tv show

We are back with another O.C. Whoops! This time a good ole camera reflection get in the frame! Classic mistake guys! The Whoops happens in Season 1 Episode 11 "The Homecoming"- the scene is where Ryan and Marissa head over to see Trey in prison and bring him Kirsten's store bought dessert (thank god).

the o.c. blooper whoops tv show Ryan marissa camera

As you can see when Ryan and Marissa peel out and head to see trey, the camera on the reflection of the Range Rover window, the black square camera is easily seen. What is also revealed is the Cohens front facade set (see the column and roof).

cohen house the o.c behind the scenes

Here is a one-of-a-kind rare photo of the actual Cohen house set front facade. As you can see it matches with the scene above. Notice how there isn't anything attaching at certain points of the house, this is because the cameras never went up that high, therefor appearing to be a real complete house to the viewer.

This set front was built as very close replica to the actual house in Malibu..As you can see some details are different from the set built front vs the actual front. But like Seth Cohen says "That's Hollywood for ya!".

The O.C. Whoops: Luke's guitar appears at the Rooney show? Plus bonus video!

In season 1 episode 12 "The Secret", Luke and Ryan get paired up to do a school report together. Ryan naturally goes over to Luke's house to do the project. Which lets the viewers into a unseen world of the Wards, creating a backdrop for what's to come. In the scene the viewer gets a super rare view of Luke's room. Which ends up looking like a typical teenager's room. Luke's room is filled with macho decor and the usual things, a skateboard, bed, lamp, computer, boombox, electric guitar and oh yes an acoustic guitar. More photos of his room here!
Then in season 1 episode 15 "The Third Wheel" The gang is hanging out at "The OC Club" where Oliver hooked everyone up with a backstage passes to the Rooney concert. As Luke hangs out backstage, Oliver hands Luke an acoustic guitar..Luke immediately starts playing a song he wrote, singing a sweet lullaby assuming called "Rosanna". This is a comical scene and is yet another reason why Luke's character is awesome! This scene is totally random coming from him but then again its during Luke's metamorphosis into being a nice guy and great friend.

So look closely at both photos. The guitar Luke is holding is the same guitar as seen in his room. The prop manager probably thought that nobody would notice or care but we did and we do!

Dear prop manager..your fired!
UPDATE 11/9/16!!! The guitar shows up 2 more places!
In season 1 episode 25 "The Shower" The guitar is magically in Jimmy's apartment!
Who would have thought Jimmy is a closet musician?
Then in season 2 Episode 1 "The Distance" we see the same guitar back at Luke's new Portland house living room! See the guitar to the right near the bookshelf. That guitar gets passed around more than Julie Cooper!
But wait theirs more!!
Everything The O.C. Bonus features:

Battle of the songs! Chris Carmack's The O.C. Performance VS Nashville Performance!
Here we have the very scene noted above from The O.C. 2003 season 1 episode 15
"The Third Wheel".
The next scene in the video is 10 years later in 2013 Chris Carmack plays a country singer named "Will Lexington" on the hit ABC show "Nashville". He performs the song "What If I was willing". As many people don't realize Chris Carmack is actually a real musician.
Which performance do you like better?

The O.C. Whoops: Julie Poisoned Caleb's Drink in The Pool House?!

Caleb and Julie mansion house pool The O.C

Here we have an Everything The O.C. exclusive blooper that we like to call The O.C. Whoops!
Meanwhile at the tail end of Season 2 episode 23 "The O.Sea", Julie tries one last desperate attempt at saving her position in Newport society. Julie's plan is to poison Caleb's margarita while they swim at home for one last hurrah. If her plan goes successfully Caleb will croak before submitting the signed divorce papers, thus rendering her a billionaire with a capital B or so she thinks.

Julie pours drink for Caleb the o.c.

The whoops here is found in the drink mixing scene above. Do you notice anything familiar about the background set behind Julie? The truth is that Julie is actually in Ryan's pool house kitchen. We are made to think that the kitchen she is mixing the drink in is the pool house at Caleb and Julie's mansion.

Decorations were changed around to give the scene and set a different look.

For starters the set decorators took away Ryan's microwave (yeah cause that thing got a lot of action), added a blender, fresh fruit, booze and possibly changed the art work on the right side wall.

The rest is relatively the same. Same granite green counter tops, sink placement etc. Nice try Schwartz, nice try indeed!

The O.C. Whoops: Crew Member Caught in Plain Sight!

ryan and marissa on bike skateboard the oc

During season 1 Episode 2 "The Model Home" Marissa and Seth help Ryan with a hiding place, complete with tent, toilet paper and tons of candles. Afterwards they then head out to get a bite to eat at the famous O.C. Diner. On the way there (if you look closely OR NOT) you will see a guy with a green hat, headphones with a mic and a clipboard walking behind Ryan. This is obviously a crew member, SOO BUSTED!

I am wondering if this footage was meant to make it into the episode or perhaps they were lacking footage and thought nobody would notice. Little did they know that Everything The O.C. notices all! At one point Ryan turns his head to the crew member almost keeping up with him in conversation. My only guess is Chino's saying "hey man you think you are in the shot?"...5 seconds of fame..

The O.C. Whoops: The Risky Huh?

In season 2 episode 18 "The Risky Business" the Cohen's volunteer in a antique charity auction. There were many items donated, one of which (also the most valuable item at the event) was the glass egg from the cult classic 80's Tom Cruise movie "Risky Business".

After figuring out the value of the glass egg Trey steals and sells it so he could afford a down payment on a place to live "I got this little brother". On the day of the event Ryan and Seth notice the egg is missing and go on a mission to find it.

Seth and Ryan attempt to steal the egg back, during the attempt the "bad guys" are chasing after Ryan and Seth. In a desperate attempt to save the egg from the hands of the heathens, Ryan Hail Mary's the glass egg like a QB in a Texan football game. Seth successfully catches the egg for a Risky Business touchdown moment that is all too familiar.

The O.C. scene recreation

Footage from "Risky Business"

Look closely, the problem with the O.C. egg is it's not the glass egg from Risky Business. It is indeed a glass egg yes but good gracious the size difference is absurd. It's Hollywood guys, you could have at least found a replica! The main shape is close but the original egg is about 3 times smaller. However you do have to respect the creators of The O.C. recreating the famous glass egg toss scene, emulating the correct angle and everything but the size, ugh the size! On a side thought maybe Tom Cruise just has really huge hands and Seth has hands of an infant baby..Something for you to ponder about!

The O.C. Woops: Whats that stage light doing in the Cohen's driveway?!

Lets face it, a film editor has to go through hours and hours of footage and tidy it all up in a 42 minute package that has to flow and make sense. Within all that editing and multiple episodes there is bound to be some continuity errors and mistakes. On The O.C., there are a few bloopers/woopsies moments but this one is by far the most obvious - yet no other sites have ever covered it. This is an Everything The O.C. exclusive!

So Marissa and Jimmy decide to come visit the Cohen's. If you look closely (or not) you will notice a stage light behind a little ways behind Marissa's red Mustang. It will become very apparent as the camera pans to the right (as Kirsten walks to the door). It is a stage light on a black stand. This stage light helps with the illusion that the characters are actually outside in sunny Newport Beach, when in reality they are on a soundstage! The only thing is, these lights are suppose to be completely unseen!

Its pretty laughable sight once you spot the error, makes you shake your head and think how the heck did they let that one slip by?! If only the tree on their front door was a bit thicker, sigh...

The O.C. Woops: The Mystery of Luke's Hairy Chest

Here we have the oh so lovable Abercrombie villain water polo player of the pilot episode of The O.C., Luke Ward. It appears that he isn't exactly shaving his chest as religiously as we once learned to believe ("that guy shaves his chest" - Seth Cohen). Exibit A photo above: Luke Ward stands at Holly's beach after party with his shell necklace, chest hair and all, ready to get his hook up on..Look HAIR, CHEST HAIR..This mystery now puzzles me. Possible theories to explain this phenomenon: Perhaps Luke hit puberty over the summer and was trying to show off his newly acquired Austin Powers look at the party. Or the more obvious answer is Chris Carmack (actor that plays Luke Ward) probably didn't want to shave his hard earned hair without knowing if the show was going to get picked up past the pilot episode (that's alot to sacrifice). Or simply that the writers didn't have a clear vision with his character as of the pilot episode. Either way its a highly entertaining O.C. oops. continuity error.

The O.C. Woops: I Spy Camera Guy - Luke's Dad's Dealership Scene

In season 1 episode 12, Luke and Ryan are paired up to work on a science project together. That project involved going to Luke's dads dealership to use the dealerships special printers and copiers. While Ryan and Luke check out cars, they see lukes dad and another man. Luke then looks like he saw a ghost when he sees his dad making out with that man.

GOOF: Look at the photo and the portion inside the red square - during this scene there is a wall made of reflective marble (probably not the best choice), for a split second you can then see a camera man and along with the camera shooting the famous make-out dad's out the closet scene. Poor Luke, can't say it gets much better from here..

The O.C. Woops: I think the Cohen's forgot something on their door

See anything wrong in this picture? Here we have Season 1 Episode 2 "The Model Home". During this scene Kirsten goes outside to have a secret conversation about Jimmy needing to "borrow" a hundred thousand dollars, yeah Jimmy it is a lot, we all need one hundred grand, I guess its nice to be next door neighbor to a money tree! Now as you probably already know, the only time the cast and crew went to the real on location Cohen house was for the pilot episode and a select few scenes during the series. The real life Cohen house is in Malibu, CA not Newport. After the shows pilot was a success the creators built a life size replica of the Cohen house at The Raleigh Studios in LA where the majority of scenes take place (in a controlled environment). So anyways during this scene the camera goes to the Cohen front door and out comes Kirsten on the phone in a very worried manor..The door opens and we see the real house door complete with..you guess it a a black realtor style lock box. This is an exclusive woops/goof/blooper that I haven't seen anywhere else!

My theory is (this is just a really good assumption) that during the filming of episode 2 the house was for sale or vacant and or the studio rented out time to use the house. The owner/realtor left them the keys to the mansion via front door lock box..That way the studio could come back to the physical Cohen house location to fill in some shots for the show etc.. My problem with this is well its pretty noticeable surely it was deliberate, I mean it kinda blends in!?! Maybe Sandy secretly had the put house on the market to then move the family to Berkeley, we may never know. I would love to get a hold some production notes from the episodes.

Here we can see another angle from the scene complete with The Cooper house in the background obviously proving that this scene was filmed at the real house.

Furthermore as saw above this scene was shot at the physical real Cohen house because of the extra detail around and under the door, where the door seals completely shut without a gap via door insulation. The Cohen studio house below has large gaps underneath the front door which gives it an obvious studio look aka no one but the huge fans aka me and you will notice. Look below (ignore the bad Photoshop skills, painted Ryan out), that's a heck of a gap under the door, talk about all your cool air going out window or in this case the door!
