The O.C. In the News: 6210 Ocean Breeze Dr UPDATE Augusts 2023!

My wife and I recently took a trip to California to visit family. I didn't originally plan to see any O.C. sites this trip but towards the middle of our vacation, I felt it was necessary to at-least get an update for everyone on the 6210 Malibu house. If you are unfamiliar, this is the house that was used for the pilot footage of the "Cohens house" in the first episode. This home was used for the interior shots, kitchen, living-room, Seth's room and backyard area (which was later built within the Manhattan Beach studios). To catch you up, years ago this six-million dollar house was burned down in a massive fire that infiltrated the whole area, costing millions of dollars in damage to hundreds of properties. If you haven't yet, I encourage you to read more on that here before proceeding below (highly valuable, includes fire damage photos as well).

Main objective of returning to this site was to see the overall build progress and also to see if the house was a different design all-together. Additional bonus objectives was to stare at the exterior Cohen and Cooper mansions located on the same cul-de-sac and take a minimum of 20 selfies (standard procedure).

As mentioned earlier, we made our way to this cul-de-sac in 2021 and captured the rebuild process of the 6210 home but was very minimal. Only the initial foundation was being built so it was hard to imagine what the final product would look like.

Original home exterior

I was unsure if the owners were going to re-build the same home but now we have an answer....A big negative. And honestly, I don't blame them, why not freshen things up with all that insurance moolah? One thing to point out is the similar shape and layout.

Although they didn't rebuild the original house plan, one feature however still remains from the original design! The infinity pool and grill area! Which still makes this sacred ground for any OC mega fan. For those that skipped the link above (shame on you!), this was where Ryan's pool house was built temporarily for the pilot episode before being moved into a the Manhattan Beach sound-stage. More on that here!

As you can see from this Google map the houses general layout is similar but a different design all-together

Here is a view from the front/side of the home

Here is a view from the street

And here is a bonus shot of me in front of the Cohen's mansion

A close-up of the Cohen mansion

Last but not least Marissa's house, which is located right next store

As always if you intend to visit this Malibu cul-de-sac, be respectful, these are peoples private homes. Until next time, have a great day!

The O.C. In the News: 6210 Ocean Breeze Dr UPDATE!

Hi guys! We hope everyone has been safe out there in this post COVID world. We wanted to bring you an update on the 6210 Ocean Breeze Dr house. If you are unfamiliar about the OC significance of this house and what happened to it, read this article here to get caught up on all the details!

In short, on November 2018 the house that was used to film the pilot episode, interiors, kitchen, living-room and pool area was burned down by the Woolsey Malibu fires.

Recently, our O.C staffer Taylor and his wife Anna visited Malibu, CA and was able to get a status update on the 6210 Ocean Breeze property and filled us in on the current state of the property.

First, see below for photos of the actual damage that the Woolsey fire had caused to the home.

As you can see in this Google aerial shot, the property has been completely cleaned up and even still includes the original pool, grill area where Ryan's temporary pool house was built.

As of 6/21 the 6210 Ocean Breeze property is being rebuilt! When Taylor and his wife went to Malibu they reported that construction was being made on the property. They were unsure however, if it will be the same exact design but did confirm that the original pool area/bar area are still intact. In-fact, if you look really closely you will see a construction foreman chilling under an umbrella near the pool bar area. He's living the dream! What a view! See below for a video of the property.

So the silver-lining in all this from a OC fan perspective is that at least one of the most famous pilot episode areas (pool area) of the home is still intact! However, we can't imagine how devastating this has been for the owners but very glad that they decided to rebuild! We hope you enjoyed this update! Thank you for checking it out!

The Interiors and Exteriors of "The Cohen House" Located in Malibu!

This is the actual interiors of the external house we see in nearly every episode of The O.C..Notice how the inside looks completely different than what we saw on TV. This is because the creators used only the outside of this Malibu home - the interiors were inspired by another house on the same street, that was where the interior pilot episode shots were filmed. After the pilot episode, the show was shot inside Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios. A set was created that took the likes of this house and the interiors of the pilot episode house and married them together. Sadly, in late 2018 the house that we saw the interiors of in the pilot episode was burned down. Read about that more here.

The O.C. in the News: 6210 Ocean Breeze Drive destroyed by Malibu Woolsey fire?!

Before we get to the Malibu/Woolsey fire details a few basic things need to get out of the way: During the pilot episode of The O.C. three houses were used in the filming, all three are located on the same street in a gated Malibu cul-de-sac:

Related image

6205 Ocean Breeze is the house that we could occasionally see only the front exterior of. This house was where the Cohens supposedly lived. It remained seen throughout the series, a focal point right before interiors scenes were shown. If you remember Marissa and Ryan first met down near the driveway of this home.

6201 Ocean Breeze was Marissa's house - this house is directly next door to 6205 (Cohen house), this house was used very briefly in the pilot episode. Marissa's front doorway was shown when "The Man" stopped by/Jimmy's office/Foyer area when Marissa, Jimmy, Julie and Kaitlin were leaving the house to head to the charity show. Furthermore a few exterior shots were used when Marissa laid on the ground passed out. This homes interiors were later changed and built on a sound stage in Manhattan Beach.

Lastly 6210 Ocean Breeze was just a house on the same street as the other homes (very close to 6201 and 6205) that the producers conveniently borrowed things from.

For instance, the backyard pool area (where Ryan's pool-house was located) was actually shot in the backyard of this house..

It was temporarily built and taken away after filming the pilot (rebuilt in a studio at Manhattan Beach).

This house also contained scenes from the interior living room area where Seth was playing PlayStation with Ryan. "Do you want to play Grand Theft Auto? It's pretty cool. You can like, steal cars and... not that that's cool. Or uncool".

Lastly where Sandy and Kirsten talk (along with other kitchen scenes/Ryan cooking breakfast) were all filmed at this 6210 Ocean Breeze home.

These areas were later built inside a sound stage in Manhattan Beach (more on that here). The producers took key elements from 6210 and key elements from 6205 + some creativity and sandwiched them together to make what we saw on The O.C. as "The Cohens house".

Now that we have that out of the way - we have just learned that the Malibu fire has made it's way to this famous O.C. filming location street. It has been confirmed only verbally by twitter handle MalibuFire2018 (no actual picture proof yet) that the circled house (6210) was confirmed lost structure (destroyed/damaged). If it turns out to be true this will be a huge blow to the O.C. filming location community - as it holds a lot of early memories of the pilot episode. To check the ongoing updated interactive map go here.

Another external photo above and more interior photos below. (taken from the last episode of The O.C. when Ryan drives away from the Cohen house)

Sitting area..Notice how much larger this version is compared to the sound stage version (this is where Seth was playing video games in the pilot with Ryan)

A shot of the interior of the pool house that we saw in the pilot episode (it was only built for one episode then moved to Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach).

Another shot of the pool house - pretty crazy how detailed it was right!?

This room should look a bit familiar to you..It's because they turned this into Seth's room during the pilot filming

Then here's Seth's room all dressed up

Anyways we hope that the news is false but at least we are left with these wonderful images of what the house looked like before its untimely demise. We will keep you guys posted if we find anything more.

Obscure O.C. Trivia: The Cohens and The Roberts house addresses revealed!

Yes its true, in Season 4 Episode 7 "The Chrismukkah Huh?" Ryan receives a late letter from Marissa sent before her untimely passing. The scene is quick but if you pause at the right time, both Marissa and Ryan's addresses are revealed. This knowledge is bound to push you ahead of any so called fan of The O.C..

Our team of experts digitized and enhanced the above image above revealing the actual address where the Cohens lived! Not only that but it also reveals Summer's house address when Marissa was living with Summer and her dad Neil!

The addresses read:

Ryan Atwood
6203 Bluffside Terrace
Newport Beach, CA 92660

Marissa Cooper
4944 Pelican Grove Circle
Newport Beach, CA 92660

Sadly in reality there is no 6203 Bluffside Terrace or 4944 Pelican Grove Circle. These addresses were completely made up. Most likely to give the real home owners the privacy they need. Interestingly enough though the Cohen house number is only 2 off of the real thing!

The actual Cohen address of the house we see the front of briefly in nearly every O.C. episode is:

6205 Ocean Breeze Drive, Malibu, CA.
Located in a private gated community
Still for sale as of  March 2017, buy price is $6,795,000

The above house was used strictly in the first few episodes of The O.C. and mainly for external front shots after that. These shots included different cars pulling in and out of the driveway as well as multiple weather conditions, all filmed at once and reused over and over. They did use the front of the house once more in the last episode when Ryan says goodbye. The actual interiors of this house are completely different than in the show. The interiors of the Cohen house we see in the series were built entirely on sound stages 27 and 28 at Manhattan Beach Studios. The interiors and pool area were inspired by a house on the same cul de sac in the Malibu community. More about that here!

Fun fact: Dianne Burnett ex wife of Mark Burnett (creator of Survivor, SharkTank - divorced in 2003) lived in "The Cohen House" till it recently went up for sale.

The Actual Roberts address is:

28685 Wagon Road  Agoura Hills, CA
Located within a gated community called Paramount Ranch Estates
Current market estimate in 2017 is $7 million

The external shots of Summers house was filmed at this location as well as the backyard pool shots. Most of everything else was filmed in stages 27 and 28 at Manhattan Beach Studios (same place where the Cohen house set was).

Fun fact: This house is over 12,000 square feet in size, the home is fully solar powered as well as solar heated for the pool. Also features 2500 square foot gym, driving range (3 par hole) with sand traps, putting & chipping greens, a  lighted tennis court, ball machine, horseshoe pit, solar heated pool and spa, water fountains, dry river bed, organic vegetable garden, fruit trees, room for meditation pavilion overlooking Ladyface Mountain, and a three acre meadow for horses/animals plus room for barns. Holy cow, what a house!

The O.C. Mystery: How many friends came to beat up Ryan at the model home?

Exhibit A. After listening to Luke and his posse go on and on about how much they are going to beat Ryan up, Marissa can't take it anymore and storms out of Holly's party aka "thing". Marissa then drives straight to the model home mansion where Ryan is camping out (literally tent and all) and confronts him.

Marissa really wants to stay the night at the model home with Ryan but he knows that he has to jet in the morning and doesn't want to let it complicate things, thus making it harder to leave. So Ryan painfully denies her and tells her to go.

Marissa storms out in a frustrated and rejected sob. She then drives home in her Jeep.

Little does she know that there is a can of O.C beat-down lurking in the shadows in a pimped out GMC truck! Luke and his water polo companion goons (a few from the Pilot episode) tailed Marissa to the model home to sniff out what she's been up to. So as you see in the above close-up photo evidence Luke, Nordlund and Chip Saunders are the only ones in the truck.

Rewind! Did you catch it? Before they zoom into the cab of Luke's truck the camera shows a wider angle of the truck. Look there in the orange circle, in the back near the tailgate. It's someone else! By golly what is going on here! A 4th person? They brought four people? Luke knew Chino was tough but that's just excessive!

The guys then walk into the mansion to find Ryan packing up his things and preparing to leave. Here we still only see Luke, Nordlund and Chip. They ambush Ryan and ruff him up pretty good. To make matters worse someone kicks over the candles in the room and a fire starts roaring uncontrollably.

As the flames reach higher and Ryan approaching unconsciousness the three guys attempt to run out of the place before the whole home goes up in flames. Just before Luke reaches the staircase to leave his guilty conscience hits him and he goes back to carry Ryan out of the burning inferno.

Luke lays Ryan on the ground outside of the home and tells him to "Run!". Luke then hops in the back of his truck as Nordlund or Chip drives away to head back to Holly's. As you see Luke is now the only one in the back tailgate area of the truck. Where did the 4th man boy go?

ETOC theory: Luke asked another unknown friend to come ride in the back to keep lookout. As the flames start erupting the mystery 4th guy starts Luke's truck and prepares to pick up the rest of the dudes to get out of there. Other more likely possibilities could be blamed on a continuity error. In the full truck photo above, it could be that Nordlund or Chip was to sit in the back of the truck to give the idea that there is a whole gang of people ready to fight. Alternatively the editors perhaps noticed you can barely see someone in the back of the truck therefor having the inside truck shot of all three friends together necessary. Meanwhile they then forgot to erase the guy in the back. It also could have been a film crew member caught on camera. Alternatively and just as likely it could be the ghost haunting the supposed cursed unfinished model home.

Final verdict, this one stays a mystery..Whatever the case, we'll leave it up to you to decide!
