Rare Glipses: Rare Side of The O.C. Cohen house!

Have you ever wondered what the left side of the Cohen house studio set looked like? Well that wonder is officially over! Above is a very rare screen shot from a limited edition OC bonus DVD. Despite the lack of exposure on the show the left side is much more finished than we imagined it to be. Great job set designers!

Speaking of the Cohen house, it's currently still up for sale! View the listing and price here!

Rare Glimpses: Seth Cohens Bathroom!?

Seth Cohens the o.c. bathroom rare photo

Let's face it The O.C. features very few scenes of bathrooms so this is kind of a big deal! Here we have a very rare angle of Seth Cohens room. For the longest time we never knew what was on the other side of Seth's wall, we've got to see the closet in a handful of episodes but this angle above is one of kind. By golly it's Seth Cohen's bathroom, where all the magic happens (or doesn't)! Inside his bathroom we can see a picture of a mountain hanging on the wall and a towel rack complete with a plush white towel (we're sure the thread-count is at least 1000). This begs the question however, did the set designers even bother putting a toilet and shower in there since it's never seen? We will never know, at least not yet! So there you have it, a rare photo of Seths bathroom - take it all in folks! Wondering what Ryan's pool house bathroom looks like? Check it out here!

Rare Glimpses: Seth's Open Bedroom Window

seth's o.c room window open

Here we have a one time only peak at Seth Cohen's open bedroom window from Season 3 Episode 13 "The Pot Stirrer". During Seth's avoidance phase, he decided to score some Mary-Jane from Kaitlin Cooper. With a couple of joints pre-rolled and some free time to burn, Seth opens up his upstairs bedroom window for a little escapism.

seth's o.c room window open

As you may know all of the interiors shots filmed after the pilot episode were filmed in the Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios. They constructed the whole thing on a sound-stage.

seth's o.c room

The thing that makes this rare is we are seeing the only glimpse on the other side of the Seth Cohen room set, its like seeing the dark side of the moon. In every other episode we only see the windows shut with tree shadows behind it. This is another reason why this episode is awesome. The writers really branch out literally, they involve an open window featuring trees and a certain curly haired goof smoking a tree. #mindblown

Rare Glimpses: The Cohen Pilot House vs Studio Set Part 1 Seth Cohen's Room

When a brand new TV show airs it's pilot episode, producers don't know if the show is going to ever get picked up so they don't go wasting tons of money building sets etc. Sometimes the pilot of a show can be filmed months or even years before or (if ever) it gets picked up. This is why a lot of the time TV show pilots are filmed at real locations to cut cost/risk. Then if the show gets picked up they build studio sets based loosely on what you seen in the pilot episode. By doing this the studio cuts on location filming cost and also gives the producers more control with lighting etc, they can film at any time in any weather and it will still look like sunny Newport Beach via fancy stage lights and film color editing.

As you may know, The O.C. pilot filmed at three homes, all of which are actual homes located on the same street in a private Malibu subdivision. The exterior shots that we see in every episode of the Cohen house come from the 6205 Ocean Breeze Dr..This includes various night shots, the house in various weather conditions, Cohen cars pulling up, Cohen cars pulling out etc..On the other hand the house in which we never see the front of is 6210 Ocean Breeze Dr. This is the house that inspired the interiors we see in the pilot episode. It was the inspiration for the interior and backyard of the Cohen home, mainly the kitchen, Seth's room and backyard pool area. So when you sandwich the exterior look of 6205 and the interior of 6210 together makes the Cohen house.

So during the pilot episode of The O.C. not a whole lot of the 6210 pilot house was shown. We got to see Ryan's temporary pool-house, the kitchen, the front door area, Seth's room and a few vague living room backgrounds and that's about it. Due to showing only small parts of the real house, this had to make it easier on the set designers when it came to filling in the gaps of the Cohen house, virtually getting to make the rest up as they went.

So now that we covered the back story lets now explore the pilot Seth Cohen room in part 1.

I did some digging and stumbled upon the real-estate photos of 6210 which included a bunch of interior and exterior shots. As I was looking through them I noticed a girls room that resembled the same shape and size as Seth Cohen's room in the pilot. The walls seem to be identical as well as window size, the crown molding carpeting etc. The real-estate photo's was taken several years after the pilot so I imagine they took down the blinds seen in the pilot sometime during those years but its pretty obvious match.

Below is Seth's room as seen in the pilot episode painted and redressed as a girls room several years later, so wrong I know!
The real-estate photo where the actual shooting of Seth Cohen's room was done

Look at the wall shape behind the computer and to the left
See the windows shape and same plants through the blinds
See the the wall shape in the top right corner, matches the real-estate photo
As well as this photo

As we see Seth's room in the second episode we actually see the Seth room built in the studio which is pretty loosely based off of the room we see in the pilot. The second Seth room features a more square shape without the fancy window alcoves etc. Lets be honest, there is a ton of differences but among them - If you look closely between the pilot and the first episode you will notice the arrangement of furniture and posters change. It's funny looking back at the pilot, that episode thought that Seth would be the type of guy to not only listen to Static X and Nirvana (okay maybe Nirvana) but also hang posters proudly..Indie loving Seth is "smiling like he means it" about this right now (obscure Killers jab).

Seth getting his map of Tahiti for Ryan in the second episode (see the Static X poster and Nirvana poster towards the left side of the room.

Rare shot of the studio set, scroll up and see the differences between he pilot and this.

And Another

So there we have it, proof that they didn't think we'd notice the differences! I find this kind of stuff fascinating and now you too are aware of it! Its interesting how a certain character is portrayed in the beginning of a story and how their house props etc change as the story and their character's age or define. Stay tune for part 2 The Pool house!

Rare Glimpses: Zach Steven's House

In Season 2 Episode 14 "The Brothers Grim" Summer goes over to Zach's house to drop off things that remind her of him. She is greeted by Zach's mother and they have a little chat about his make believe 6 foot 4 girlfriend he supposedly hooked up with in Italy. During this scene we can see the front door area of Zach's house.

As you can see from the above photo, it is an upscale decorated house complete with Buddha statue on the far right. If you look to the background area you will see what looks to possibly be an ocean view but you have to look hard to see it. I can confirm that this is shot at a real house somewhere presumably close to Raleigh Studios in LA, which is usually the case due to cost.

On the other side we can see the outside street area behind Summer's head, looks to be a nice street of large "Newport esque" homes and a street sign/stop sign combo. I would like to find this actual house on Google street view to see what the front of it looked like. In order to do that we will need to get a higher quality version of this scene and possibly sharpen the stop sign area to then read what street it is. If I figure it out you know I will be posting it!

Rare Glimpses: Pilot Episode Pool Party Condom Stash

Here we have a funny little rare glimpse that can only be seen clearly if you obsessively hit the pause button over and over, yeah I kind of did that...Anyways, in the pilot episode after the fashion show we head over to Holly's beach house. The camera then shows a bunch of quick clips displaying crazy teenage behavior, drugs, sex and oh yeah this condom shot. Looks like they have there hands full and wow the 80's called, they want their models back..vintage.

Rare Glimpses: Luke's Newport House

Being fascinated by all things the O.C. and watching the series multiple times I like to squeeze every detail possible, look out for things I didn't notice etc..One such fascination is revisiting the homes of semi important O.C. characters, especially season one characters, the ones that really solidified the shows success, no other than Luke and his Newport house (mansion)!

I know what your thinking, they never showed Luke's house!?! But your mistaken, we did get to see Luke's house but it was so quick it was close to being forgotten..until now...Here is a very rare glimpse, a one episode journey to the very likable towards the end character Luke Ward. Seriously, the guy is underrated, he so should have been kept in the series! A Luke in Portland & Seth spin-off! To be honest I thought episode 1 of season 2 was quite entertaining, an alternate universe where two rivals come as one!

Judging by the photos and common sense, Luke's house is shot at an actual location, a home somewhere near Raleigh Studios in LA. It wouldn't have been cost effective to build a set that large for one episode.. I have yet to determine where this house is but my thought is to look around the studio area on Google maps, some of the front door shots may tip this house off, I'd love to find it! If anyone knows where this house is, let us know in the comments below..We are basically left with a mystery and a gift, we have no idea what Luke's house looks like from the outside on the flip side lets let the interior journey begin!

Scene: Season 1 Episode 12 "The Secret"..Ryan and Luke get paired up to work on a science project together. During this scene Ryan goes over to Luke's house to work on the project, he is then greeted by Luke's mom, Luke's Brothers and Eventually his dad (Carson). Luke then comes down stairs to greet Ryan and they start to work on the project up in his room.

Here we have the opening shot of Luke's house, a very marbled, cold open door way area complete with fancy staircase leading to the second story where Luke's room is.

As the door opens you can see the background a little bit better, maybe someone can match up these characteristics and tip us off!

Again here is another view of the door way opening and background, palm trees a couple of large houses with red/orange tiled roofs. I will have to look at the DVD version of the show and see if I can get a higher resolutions photo of this scene to maybe pinpoint more details better.

Luke's mom says Come on in!

Large home with multiple arches and marble floor.

Luke's spoiled and crazy brothers fighting over what looks to be a toy dinosaur...can't we just get along!

Luke's mom then makes them greet Ryan, a quick smirk is given then Luke's mom bribes them with a snack..That's the life..

Luke's dad comes home right in the nick of time and greets Ryan as well as Luke..

Luke's all like, I didn't think they were going to show my house in this show, I hope my room is clean enough!

Here we have the room where Marissa and Luke spend a lot of time, took 12 episodes to reach this point. We see he has interests in Music and skateboarding, obviously sports as well..

Here we see another angle of Luke's desk area, with a gaming joystick on top of his tower. In the background Ryan is looking at his room trying to take it all in, I don't think its what he was expecting to find.

This was cool for me, If you look at his computer its a typical case for a gaming computer, you can see the glass cutout on the case typically to look at the gaming components. I thought it was neat to realize Luke was more of a gamer than I thought and he may have even built that computer himself..Who's the geek now Cohen!? Also in the background on his book shelf we see various props, a soccer player statue, books, model cars, hats and so on..I wonder whats in the green boxes, maybe his porn stash?

Then as the last shot of his house we see what looks to be a living room area, complete with a toy castle fort, bean bag chairs etc., as you can see the kids basically run this place..

So there we have it, a pretty classy house that should have been featured more, I wanted to see what the kitchen looked like, if there was a pool, what did the other side of Luke's room look like etc., but take it all in for what its worth cause its a very short scene. At least now you know a little more about Luke than before and on a side note its not the last time we see his brothers Brad and Eric either, oh nooo that's many future posts to come.

Where to find it: Season 1 Episode 12 "The Secret"

Update October 16, 2016: In season 1 Episode 7 "The Escape" Luke and Marissa are making out in Luke's bed. This may actually be the first time we see a small glimpse of Luke's room. See image below!

Rare Glimpses: Ryan's Chino Room - Rare Photos!

Here at Everything The O.C. we like to track down those rare moments, the ones that just fly by your screen faster than you can even gather what you just saw. We like to slow those moments for you with what we like to call Rare Glimpses.

Today we reveal Ryan's old trashy room from Season 1 Episode 1, boy its far from the looks of the pool-house! As Ryan is packing his belongings and prized possessions (namely his 5 pack of wife beaters) we get a nice glimpse on what Ryan's life was like before he turned into a Cohen. From what we know Ryan's room was used only in the pilot episode, we never see it again. What we can gather from the photo's Ryan shared the room with Trey - The room includes a TV, VCR, two mattresses sitting on the floor, a whole lot of stickers/posters on the wall, skateboard, a bong, a jack in the box cup, some CD's and a bunch of other clutter. Two mattresses you say? Yes two mattresses that never seen the light of day or really the whole other side of the room for that matter..I went deep diving and found a uber rare pre production photo from the set designer Jaymes Hinkle that worked on the pilot episode. This is the other side of the room that we never got to see, this is O.C. GOLD, take it all in!

System of a Down posters, TOOL, TRAPT, Dragon Ball Z, Dirtbikes

Whats with all the skateboards on the walls I mean I wouldn't take Ryan for a skateboarder so maybe his brother Trey was the skater in the Atwood family, maybe he enjoyed stealing cars and stealing skateboards. Never the less the scenes from Ryan's room and house in general went by very fast but to be honest the looks of it makes you want to leave quick and also gives you a true sense of what Ryan was going through day to day. Good Riddance Ryan's Old Room, on to the POOL-HOUSE!

Noteworthy quote: "This ain't your house, man!"

Rare Glimpses: The View Inside Ryan's Harbor School Locker

Here we have the beloved school locker of Ryan Atwood/Cohen, complete with well i'm assuming school books and a few door stickers. Wow I didn't know Ryan was into self promotion. Most of the stickers look to be surfing brands and then the largest photo looks to be a Hammock overlooking the beach. Maybe this is Ryan's ideal mecca of relaxation or an eventual retirement place, maybe it was even suppose to be created into a spinoff "Ryan and The Hammock", we may never know..Stay tuned for next article where we reveal Ryan Atwoods locker combination!

Rare Glimpses: Inside the Cohen House - Ryan's Poolhouse Bathroom

A rare and I mean tiny glimpse into the mysterious life of Ryan's bathroom! Here we see a small crack into the secret life of Ryan, where the magic happens etc. I have been always wondering if there was anything actually back there and this proves that there at least is matching interior paint and a mirror. Perhaps the bathroom serves as a makeup area or better yet a working set bathroom? I don't even  know but I will tell you that bathrooms are highly untelevised on The O.C. so take this view in we may never see more than this!

UPDATE:

While watching more of season 2 I noticed this shot that enables us to see a bit more of the bathroom area of the pool house. We can see two pictures hung up and what looks to possibly be a hamper.
