The O.C. Music: Looking to buy the O.C. Score Soundtrack?

Will the score ever get released?

Looking to buy the O.C. Score Soundtrack? Well your going to have to get in line! The background music or score has never been formally released so the bad news is you can't, well, yet...

The O.C. composers

chris tyng, Christopher Tyng, The oc, o.c.
Christopher Tyng
Christopher Tyng was the main music composer for the first half of the show (from 2003-2005). Weather it was a dramatic moment or a comedic one Christopher's background compositions set the tone for the entire series. At the time Christopher Tyng was also juggling composing for the hit TV show "Rescue Me" as well as a Futurama video game and a TV series called "Game Over". Christopher left the show in 2005 for unknown reasons. It could be to jump on the "Rescue Me" wagon and focus solely on that project until that show's ending in 2007 or it could be that The O.C. creators wanted to take a different musical direction.

richard marvin composer the oc music maker background
Richard Marvin
Which they did, they hired composer Richard Marvin in 2005. Marvin stayed for the remaining of the series (seasons 2.24, 3 and 4). You may have recalled when the switch-over happened as you heard a brand new ending credits song appear in last episode of season 2 "The Dearly Beloved". It was a huge whoa moment! Naturally It seemed like Richard Marvin was trying to emulate the pallet that Christopher painted but also throwing in bits here and there of his own great color and style. Its up to you to decide which composer you like better.

Fans taking matters in their own hands

Over the years there has been DVD releases as well as various other The O.C. merchandise but still no official background music release. So due to that, fans have uploaded their own attempts on various websites (mainly YouTube). The best YouTube channel for higher quality background music tracks from The O.C. can be found on the awesome YouTube channel called OCscore. This channel provides compositions of both Christopher and Richard. Meanwhile other fans have shared their audio files in torrent form that can be found throughout the web. These tracks have been produced home-made using a vocal removal techniques, getting rid of voice frequencies, thus keeping the background music intact. This effect can be produced via Audacity and many others free computer audio software. Due to not having the original files they aren't perfect, you can subtly hear actors voices at times as well as other artifacts that were layered in the shows audio that are impossible to remove. Despite its flaws its very enjoyable never the less.

Petition

There is an ongoing petition at Ipetitions.com (click to sign) which demands the release of high quality versions of the score that fans can then buy. If you want to support the cause, sign it and maybe eventually the networks will release the tracks. But like most things, we are in the dark when it comes to the business decisions made in Hollywood. There could be countless reasons why the soundtrack hasn't been released yet or ever will. Until then get creative, check out the pretty good quality tracks via youtube and relive your favorite O.C. background music moments!

The O.C. Memorable Moment: Sandy tries to teach Ryan how to play golf!

This has to be at-least in the top 5 best The O.C. moments ever. This moment comes from season 1 episode 16 "The Links". In the scene you have Ryan, not the most athletic (at least in rich people sports), Sandy trying to teach Ryan how to play golf using a coffee cup/smooth words and Seth in the pool to catch the loose golf balls all the while serving as extra comic relief (as usual).

Feeling like Marissa is spending too much time with Oliver - Ryan gets extra uneasy, angsty and high-strung and the upcoming Oliver Palm Springs hang out isn't helping either nor is Sandy's golf techniques or Seth's sarcastic banter! Which of course makes for a a truly funny and classic scene. Watch this hilarious scene above!

Best quote from this scene:

Sandy: "You don't play golf you don't spa, what do you do?"

Just for Fun: Sandy Cohen for President 2016!

With all the back and forth cat and mouse games and hub-bub involved in the coming election, it is important to realize that Sandy Cohen would be a greater as president in every way!

10 Reasons why Sandy Cohen would be a great president

1. Honesty

Jimmy: Why would you do that? You don’t even like me.
Sandy: Well I’m a public defender. I represent a lot of people I don’t like.

2. Realistic

"I like to anticipate the worst at all times. It's a Cohen family trait."

3. Treats people equally

"Well. I should be off. Gotta find the next kid to jeopardize the community. Maybe a black kid. Or an Asian kid."

4. Giving advice

Sandy: Hey, listen, you were lucky to be able to hang in there after all that foreplay.
Seth: Fore-what-now?

5. Believes in family values

"I love you, And the door is always open.”

6. Has a great sense of humor

Sandy: Hey. If I teach you guys anything, don’t ever get married.
Ryan: I’ve heard that from you before.
Sandy: Oh you’ll hear it from me again. I’ll be at the bar.

7. Wise above his years

"Valentine’s Day is not a holiday. Rosh Hashanah, that’s a holiday. Memorial Day, yes—a holiday.

8. A great listener

"The next time you feel like using your fists, you better open your mouth and talk. That's what I'm here for."

9. Good looking

Seth: You get your picture taken?
Ryan: Mug shot?
Seth: So cynical.
Sandy: Check out my new mug shot.
Seth: God, dad those eyebrows are out of control.
Sandy: It's a sign of power you know.
Seth: Well, then you must be the most powerful man in the world.
Sandy: Well, brace yourself son, it's genetic.

10. Is up to date on the latest trends

Sandy: And you're going to yogalates.
Kirsten: You just like saying that.
Sandy: Yogalates? Yeah, I kinda do. Yogalates?

So with that being said get out there and vote Sandy Cohen for President 2016!!

"Hi I'm Sandy Cohen and I endorse this message!"

The O.C. Whoops: Luke's guitar appears at the Rooney show? Plus bonus video!

In season 1 episode 12 "The Secret", Luke and Ryan get paired up to do a school report together. Ryan naturally goes over to Luke's house to do the project. Which lets the viewers into a unseen world of the Wards, creating a backdrop for what's to come. In the scene the viewer gets a super rare view of Luke's room. Which ends up looking like a typical teenager's room. Luke's room is filled with macho decor and the usual things, a skateboard, bed, lamp, computer, boombox, electric guitar and oh yes an acoustic guitar. More photos of his room here!
Then in season 1 episode 15 "The Third Wheel" The gang is hanging out at "The OC Club" where Oliver hooked everyone up with a backstage passes to the Rooney concert. As Luke hangs out backstage, Oliver hands Luke an acoustic guitar..Luke immediately starts playing a song he wrote, singing a sweet lullaby assuming called "Rosanna". This is a comical scene and is yet another reason why Luke's character is awesome! This scene is totally random coming from him but then again its during Luke's metamorphosis into being a nice guy and great friend.

So look closely at both photos. The guitar Luke is holding is the same guitar as seen in his room. The prop manager probably thought that nobody would notice or care but we did and we do!

Dear prop manager..your fired!
UPDATE 11/9/16!!! The guitar shows up 2 more places!
In season 1 episode 25 "The Shower" The guitar is magically in Jimmy's apartment!
Who would have thought Jimmy is a closet musician?
Then in season 2 Episode 1 "The Distance" we see the same guitar back at Luke's new Portland house living room! See the guitar to the right near the bookshelf. That guitar gets passed around more than Julie Cooper!
But wait theirs more!!
Everything The O.C. Bonus features:

Battle of the songs! Chris Carmack's The O.C. Performance VS Nashville Performance!
Here we have the very scene noted above from The O.C. 2003 season 1 episode 15
"The Third Wheel".
The next scene in the video is 10 years later in 2013 Chris Carmack plays a country singer named "Will Lexington" on the hit ABC show "Nashville". He performs the song "What If I was willing". As many people don't realize Chris Carmack is actually a real musician.
Which performance do you like better?

Did you find all 7?

Regardless! We officially welcome you to summer!! Now take some time to think about what a 10 year reunion episode would be like on season 5 of The O.C..Would there be a punch count? Would Oliver show up? Who would be together? What would their careers be? Would there be a bon fire? A dance? Would Jimmy show up? Who would have kids? Sandy Cohen and Kirsten Cohen as grandparents? The possibilities are endless! We will leave it to Josh to fill in the details! Either way school is officially out, have a great summer everyone!

The O.C. Fan Fiction: Four Alternative Pilot Cop Car Chase Vehicles!

Here at Everything The O.C. we like to imagine and dream up alternate O.C. story lines. We like to call it The O.C. Fan Fiction. You know, exploring the what if's or reinventing the past and what not. For instance what if Sandy's favorite breakfast meal was Cheerios instead of bagels (oh the horror).

In the pilot episode of The O.C., we see two figures scoping out a nice late 70's style Chevrolet Camaro in the middle of the night. The older brother Trey ends up smashing the driver side front window and hot-wires the car in record timing. He then forces his little brother Ryan to get in and drives away like he stole it (oh that's right he did steal it). A cop car witnesses the crime and chases after them. After a short police chase, Trey crashes the car against an electrical box and the rest is history.

Below are four alternative vehicles situations that would be or not be better get-away vehicles than the Cheverolet Camaro. Enjoy!

Ryan: You sure about this?
Trey: Yeah man, it's a hoveround, you can take it to the Grand Canyon and back

Ryan: You ever ride a tandem bike before?
Trey: Yeah one time in the circus..No Ryan! What kind of a question is that? Just get on the back and make sure to pedal - i'm not doing all the work!

Ryan: I don't know Trey, this looks like a setup! Those are worth like 5 grand a piece!
Trey: Ryan! If it was a setup there would be more than two Segway scooters! Time to play mall cop! Just like old times little brother!

Ryan: What is the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile doing in Chino?
Trey: I don't know and I don't care! Mom hasn't fed us in days and I could really use a hot dog or five!

Just for Fun: Chris Carmack Reenacts his famous "Welcome to the O.C." line plus more!

Our very own Chris Carmack aka Luke Ward recently visited the Bravo show "Watch What Happens Live" and was asked to reenact his classic "Welcome to the O.C." line. The best part about the video is that he actually does it! Chris even remembers to flick his shirt near the end just as he did in the pilot episode of The O.C.! Gotta love this guy!

Curious on what Chris Carmack has been up to lately?

Well Chris has been super busy to say the least! He just wrapped up playing the character "Will Lexington" on the hit ABC show "Nashville". He played a gay country singer trying to make it big in the country music world. Which is kind of ironic since his O.C. dad Spencer Ward was gay and struggled with it as well. ABC cancelled the show this week after 4 solid seasons! To the syndication station Batman or Nashville could possibly be rescued by another network such as Netflix or the like!

Chris did a phenomenal job throughout the series, really showing off his wonderful and diverse acting ability all the while bringing positive awareness to the issues that gay people go through daily, not to mention in the country music industry. Chris has been living in Nashville due to filming but that could change since the show just ended.

Occasionally Chris plays at the local downtown Nashville bars and is a wonderful guitar player, singer and performer! He is also very nice to his fans and is eager to take photos or sign autographs!

Chris just finished recording his new EP "Pieces of You". Check it out, its really catchy!

Chris got engaged to his longtime musician girlfriend "Erin Slaver" this past year.

We wish Chris Carmack luck whatever he chooses to do next in his career but here at Everything The O.C. he will always be Luke Ward aka the big golden retriever! Shoo-shoo shakin!

Just for Fun: Benjamin McKenzie plays Dave the drummer in this 2011 Funny Or Die comedy skit!

Funny or Die presents a hilarious short skit called "The Blisters, how four became three". This skit features The O.C.'s very own Benjamin Mckenzie as the drummer of the band named Dave. The band is starting to feel a bit lackluster regarding Dave's current dedication and attitude. Dave is going through some obvious changes! Hes a teenager trapped in a 30 year old man's body, lets just say puberty has really hit and is taking a toll on the band! Enjoy!

Sandy Cohen History Lesson: Everything The O.C. Insider!

After the huge success of season 1 of The O.C. an exclusive The O.C. fan site was created in 2004 by Fox and The WB. It was called The O.C. Insider also known as OCI. For the first few years the website required a paid membership for the small-small price of 24.95 per year (in 2006 it became free for everyone).

Being an OCI member got you unlimited access to exclusive content such as cast interviews, video clips and pics, downloads for your computer or flip phone, fashion/style tips, access to message boards, discounts on O.C. gear and merchandise as well as the OCI Quarterly Magazine. In other words if you had an OCI membership you were all that and a bag of oats.

Furthermore the O.C. Insider Magazine would occasionally contain a trial membership card to the O.C. Insider website which would allow a friend to access the site for a certain amount of hours. Basically the gateway O.C. drug, giving you a glimpse of what the grass tasted like on the other side of the pasture..Then leaving you wanting more!

As you can see in the above time capsule, this is a real capture of the long defunct OC Insider website. This is what the site looked like in 2005 complete with flashy flash objects minty enough to make an epilepsy sufferer have a seizure or an O.C. super fan high and eat a ton of bagels!

Benefits of being a member stated on the site:

"THE OC INSIDER MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES:
 - A three-issue, one-year subscription to The OC Insider magazine, published by Titan Publishing
 - One year of access to theocinsider.com - the online component of The OC Insider and the ultimate online The O.C. destination which includes exclusive behind the scenes video and photos, weekly music streams and downloads, chats with talent, fashion and make-up tips
 - A membership kit, which includes a letter from series creator, Josh Schwartz, posters, and other exciting and exclusive The O.C. products.
 - Discounts and early purchases at theOCInsiderShop.com. Many exclusive items and hot fashions not available anywhere else
- Hundreds of dollars in FREE wireless downloads!"

One of the coolest area's of the site was the pool house page!

Inside the pool house page you could download buddy icons, screen savers for your PC, flip through Seth's sketchbook and play awesome games like Casino Night Hold'em or Fold'em or Blackjack (the count goes way higher with multiple decks).

Everything The O.C has rescued some of the digital download files featured on The O.C. Insider including the two games above. They can be located in the downloads section of the site! You can thank us later!

The sites concept was pretty genius and pretty revolutionary for the time. Not only could The O.C. make money on the screen but it could also make money in digital subscription form all the while proving a ton of great content.  To hardcore fans this was a no-brainer especially keeping yourself entertained in between waiting for episodes to air. An OCI membership card, talk about the perfect Chrismukkah stocking stuffer!

The awesome video interviews were probably one of the best things going for the site. Many of which can still be found floating on YouTube by searching "The O.C. Insider". Above is an example of the typical question and answer format. It's okay Sandy your guilty pleasure is safe with us!

Additionally Starbrand.tv partnered with The O.C. Insider and started cross promoting their site that sold various merchandise, clothing, bags, wall art, electronics (flip phones and Ipods) that were featured on The O.C. as well as other shows of that era.

This allowed you to basically replicate the styles of the characters you loved as well as allowing you emulate their room decorations etc for a price (sometimes pretty hefty)..Giving you the capabilities of living your own unique alternate O.C. universe of sorts, you could be the main character of The O.C. wherever you lived and in complete bliss.

If you wanted Ryan's hoodie from season 2 episode 1, you could buy it..If you Marissa's top featured in X episode you could buy that too. Everything from Seth's hair wax to Sandy's public defender tie collection could be bought! Starbrand.tv would include a store locator or brand website if you were interested in purchasing an item. If this was done now they would have included a buy it now Amazon link. Starbrand.tv also did this with other TV shows with great success.

Both sites lasted awhile after the series was over. The O.C. Insider was taken down in late 2015 and Starbrand.tv was acquired by Popsugar, the site was later taken down as well. There is now a ton of copy-cat sites doing the same thing that Starbrand did. Here at Everything The O.C. we try to research and archive forgotten O.C history for you. That way fans of the future will still be able to know the way things were, not myth's but pure facts and legends!

So now you know, put that on your bagel and schmear it!
